Rocket League Tips

The below tips are things that I wished I saw more of whenever I play online. To me, they're common sense but my common sense doesn't seem to be shared with anyone else. Review these and let me know if they make sense to you?

  • At the start of a round, the player that is the closest to the ball should rush towards it. A decent player is able to hit the ball straight into the opponent's net from the starting point. Rushing towards it helps to stop this from happening.
  • At the start of a round, the player closest to the net defends the net from the initial attack. A lot of goals can happen in the first 10 second of a round. In the event that the initial hit fails, it's good to have someone in the net defend.
  • In 3v3, use the triangular formation. One player mostly covers the left, another mostly covers the right and one covers the center. When hitting the enemy's goal, the side players can hit the ball back/forth giving an opportunity for the opposite side, or center, to goal.
    • The person at the center should remain a bit behind in the event that the enemy hits the ball back on your side. Center player is also the goal keeper.
  • Pay attention to your surrounding. If you see an ally player with that is better positioned for the ball let him hit it.
  • Focus on winning rather than individual performance. Make passes to teammates, alternate responsibilities.
  • Keep that boost meter full but not at the expanse of the game. Fill it up when it make sense to do so. Goal keeper should mainly use his boost for defensive strategies while attackers should use it on the offensive.
  • Play the game - don't be one of those people that join a match while being AFK. If you need to go in the middle of a match, just quit so that the A.I. can take over.
  • Find players to play with regularly with voice chat. Those that play together, and communicate, have an advantage over those that don't.
  • Stop loosing streaks with a training exercise. When you loose a few matches in a row, you may not be in the right mindset to play anymore. Slow down and do a quick training session to get your mind back in the game.
  • When customizing your car, use the normal Blue/Orange colors as to not confuse yourself, or your allies, during gameplay.
  • Blow the enemies up or hit those that are problematics. It's sometime easier to hit the player than it is to hit the ball. A player that's not properly aligned for the ball has a higher chance of hitting it in the net.
  • Do the training. This is a game that is simple to understand but difficult to master. Thankfully, the game offers a handful of training exercises that can help you get better.
