The first time I heard about Ashes was a few years ago from an article about the game being discontinued. The more I learned about the game, the more I wanted to try it but it was too late. Needless to say that I was pretty excited when I learned that Plaid Hat Games was bringing the game again in the form of a 1.5 "reborn" series. This time around I bought every pack I could find and do intend on keeping up with the expansions for as long as they're going to release them.
What is there to like about this game?
The thing I like most about this game is the fact that you don't need to spend a crazy amount of money to play. Sure you get expansions every quarter but those are 14-30$ (depending if it's a regular or deluxe pack) and that's it. It's relatively inexpensive to get into especially when compared with Magic the Gathering, Yo-Gi-Oh and Pokémon.
Is it fun though?
Mechanically speaking, I find the game resembles Magic The Gathering but with an heavier emphasis on strategy and you use dices instead of lands to pay for spells. Note that Ashes is available as a workshop item for the "Table Simulator" on steam if you ever wanted to try it out.
As of today, I'm happy to report that I'm up to date in terms of products available for Ashes Reborn. I might of missed out on the original release but I won't for 1.5. All I need now is for the Pandemic to end so I can meet up with some friends and get this party going!
