I Hate In-Game Customization!

I have a love/hate relationships with customization in games nowadays. I love being able to customize a character only as long as the customization options are specific to the design the game is portraying. I hate items that doesn't make sense in the world of the game.

Example: I hate playing Rainbow Six Siege online with people that are dressed as clowns wielding rainbow colored guns. It just doesn't fit the universe and ultimately breaks the immersion.

I don't know who came with the idea of adding silly items in games that shouldn't have silly items in it but I'm willing to bet that the popularity of Fortnite had something to do with it. Unlike Rainbow Six Siege, however, the silly customization fits well into the world of Fortnite.

When you try to add silly customization into a game that, by design isn't silly, it sticks out too much. I know I have the option not to customize my character with the silliness but it's like the game was tainted in some way and I just loose interest in it. Even though I don't put these things on my characters, other players might online and the problem is still there for me...

It's true that I'm on the older spectrum of gamers and that's probably why I feel this way about the silly customization options. I'm sure younger people eat that up no problem... I just miss the days where everything fit into the world.
